Scrum Master resume keywords that get past the ATS

Scrum Master roles are screened for a fairly consistent set of Agile terms. If your resume doesn't name the ceremonies, frameworks, and tools, you can be a capable Scrum Master and still get filtered. Here's what to include — only what you've genuinely done.

Frameworks

The core screens: Scrum, Agile, Kanban, SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework), LeSS, hybrid, Lean. Match the posting — a SAFe environment screens for SAFe specifically. Name the frameworks you've actually worked in.

Ceremonies and practices

Highly searchable: sprint planning, daily standup, sprint review, sprint retrospective, backlog refinement, story pointing, velocity, burndown, impediment removal, continuous improvement. These signal hands-on Scrum experience — weave the real ones into your bullets.

Tools

Common and concrete: JIRA, Confluence, Azure DevOps, Rally, Trello, Miro. JIRA especially is near-standard — if you've used it, list it. Only include tools you've genuinely worked with.

Skills and leadership

Beyond process: servant leadership, coaching, facilitation, stakeholder management, team building, conflict resolution, cross-functional collaboration. Scrum Master is a people role, and these get screened too.

Certifications

Strong keyword signals if you hold them: CSM (Certified ScrumMaster), PSM (Professional Scrum Master), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), PMI-ACP, CSP. You only need the ones you've earned — one relevant certification satisfies most screens.

How to use them honestly

Mirror the posting's framework and tools for things you've genuinely done. Show ceremonies in context ("Facilitated sprint planning and retrospectives for two teams") rather than as a bare list, and keep a clean skills line for the ATS. Leave off anything you can't speak to in an interview.

The honest check

Before applying, confirm your resume reflects the Agile terms the role screens for — and that you match the environment (a scaled SAFe shop is different from a single-team startup). Keywords get you past the filter; the right fit gets you the offer.
